This gene encodes a member of the WD-protein subfamily. This protein shares a high sequence identity to mouse and chick proteins. It contains several WD-repeats spanning most of the protein and an SOCS box in the C-terminus. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been found for this gene. A study in mice demonstrated that acute alcohol exposure during neurulation induces rapid, time-dependent transcriptomic changes in the rostroventral neural tube, with WSB1 showing a dynamic expression pattern, being down-regulated at 2 hours and up-regulated at 4 hours post-exposure, a finding validated by qRT-PCR [Boschen et al. DOI:10.1016/J.Alcohol.2022.09.001].
