Summary

This gene encodes a highly conserved metalloprotein. A similar protein in bacteria acts as an endoribonuclease, and is thought to function in ribosomal RNA maturation and ribosome assembly. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2015]

Forensic Context

A study in humans demonstrated that the YBEY was identified as one of 16 overlapping transcripts in a blood transcriptome-based prediction model for post-trauma multiple organ failure, though its specific link to the syndrome is currently unknown [Duran et al. DOI:10.1186/s13613-024-01364-5].
