Summary

ZPBP is one of several proteins that are thought to participate in secondary binding between acrosome-reacted sperm and the egg-specific extracellular matrix, the zona pellucida (McLeskey et al., 1998 [PubMed 9378618]).[supplied by OMIM, Aug 2008]

Forensic Context

A collaborative study in humans demonstrated that the ZPBP was evaluated in a preliminary study but gave inconsistent results during singleplex testing and was therefore not included in the validated semen pentaplex used for forensic mRNA profiling [Haas et al. DOI:10.1016/j.fsigen.2012.10.011].
