Enables ubiquitin-like ligase-substrate adaptor activity. Involved in positive regulation of macromolecule metabolic process; protein ubiquitination; and proteolysis involved in protein catabolic process. Part of Cul3-RING ubiquitin ligase complex. A study in mice demonstrated that ZSWIM8 is a central factor in target-directed miRNA degradation (TDMD), where it binds Argonaute proteins engaged with highly complementary targets and recruits an E3 ubiquitin ligase complex to tag Ago2 for proteasomal degradation, leading to miRNA turnover [Shang et al. DOI:10.1038/s41576-023-00611-y].
