Caveolae-Associated Protein 4
This gene encodes a protein containing two coiled-coil regions. The encoded protein promotes Rho/ROCK (Rho-kinase) signaling in cardiac muscles cells, and may facilitate myofibrillar organization. [provided by RefSeq, Jun 2013]
Forensic Context
A study in humans identified the CAVIN4 as a hub gene in the salmon module of the platelet transcriptome in patients with non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) [Zhang et al. DOI:PMC8129354]. A review of proteomic applications in forensic science notes that the CAVIN4 is a protein marker whose abundance decreases post-mortem in skeletal muscle, as part of a panel of proteins investigated for early post-mortem interval (PMI) estimation in human and animal models [Alex et al. DOI:10.1016/j.scijus.2025.101320].
