Forensic Context

A study in human traumatic brain injury (TBI) patients identified the circTPCN1 as a top up-regulated circular RNA (fold change 19.03) in brain injury tissues compared to adjacent contusion tissues, with its differential expression validated by qRT-PCR [Li et al. DOI:10.3389/fneur.2022.1086553]. The broader literature indicates that circular RNAs exhibit tissue-specific expression and can function as miRNA sponges, transcriptional regulators, and biomarkers for various conditions, including neurological disorders [Sema Misir et al. DOI:10.1038/s41418-022-00948-7].
