A study in humans demonstrated that circZBTB44 is specifically expressed in liver tissue at much higher rates than in other tissues [Sema Misir et al. DOI:10.1038/s41418-022-00948-7]. A study in human endothelial cells demonstrated that the circZBTB44 induces cell viability, proliferation, migration, and tube formation via the miR-578/VEGFA/VCAM1 axis, indicating its pro-angiogenic role [Huang et al. DOI: 10.3390/cells11091381].
