A study in human traumatic brain injury (TBI) patients identified the circZZZ3 as a top down-regulated circular RNA (fold change 0.39) in brain injury tissues compared to adjacent contusion tissues, with its decreased expression validated by qRT-PCR [Li et al. Circular RNAs exhibit tissue-specific expression and function as miRNA sponges, transcriptional regulators, and molecular scaffolds, with specific circRNAs serving as biomarkers for neurological conditions [Sema Misir et al.
