This gene encodes a member of a large family of proteins that activate Rho-type guanosine triphosphate (GTP) metabolizing enzymes. The encoded protein contains a SRC homology 3 domain and interacts with Bcl-2-associated protein family members. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2012]
Forensic Context
A study in human ischemic cardiomyopathy (ICM) patients demonstrated that the ARHGAP1 is increased in cardiomyocytes in both single-nucleus RNA sequencing and proteomic data [Simonson et al. DOI:10.1016/j.celrep.2023.112086]. A study in humans demonstrated that the ARHGAP1 mRNA exhibited differential expression in pericontusional brain tissue following traumatic brain injury, showing down-regulation by 19% in patient T3 and 30% in T4, and up-regulation by 58% in patient T7 [Michael et al. DOI:10.1016/j.jocn.2004.11.003].
